Mrs. Streefland's 2nd Grade Classroom

Hello!  A special welcome to Mrs. Streefland's 2nd grade students and families for the 2024-2025 school year!  I'm excited to meet all of you and begin a new year of learning together.  This will be my 17th year teaching at NPAS and I am thrilled to continue my journey at Eagle View Elementary as you child's classroom teacher.  This will be my first year teaching second grade, however, many of you may recognize me from my prior role as an interventionist for the past five years at Eagle View.  I'm excited to return back to the classroom with prior experience teaching both third and fourth grade.

As we begin our year together, I'm excited to learn more about your child and family!  Let me tell you a little about me and my family.  I received my BA in Elementary Education K-6 from the College of St. Scholastica in Duluth with a double major in Library Media Science and obtained my masters in Curriculum and Instruction from St. Catherine University.  Since I have a passion for teaching reading, I received an additional licensure in Reading K-12 from Hamline University.   I enjoy learning more about and keeping current with education and in recent years have recieved additional training within Orton Gillingham methodology, the science of reading, and implementing these structures and multi-sensory instruction into my classroom.  This explicit, direct, sequential, and systematic approach to literacy enriches the literacy of all students, but especially students with dyslexia.

In addition to my teaching passion, I love to spend my free time outdoors with my family.  My husband and I live in the country outside of Elko New Market, which has given us the opportunity to enjoy nature and get a little taste of hobby farming building a coop and chasing after our fourteen hens! Our two boys, also attend NPAS with our oldest Max, beginning 10th grade and our youngest, Weston beginning 8th grade.  We enjoy spending time on the boat fishing and waterskiing as well as cheering them on within their passions of baseball, hunting, and snowmobiling.  We value New Prague Area Schools!
